15 riders and one talker at the meeting point today. Ole Falkenhaug was RIC and he decided on Turua on the Hauraki plains as our destination.
Unfortunately as we left the carpark two bikes collided, with the riders apparently uninjured and the bikes still rideable but with some minor damage. Tony Kay escorted them back to one rider's residence where they could work on repairs. Tony then rejoined the ride. I later found out that one rider had some injuries which were treated at the local A&E. The accident split us up but we regrouped at Waitakaruru.
After a nice lunch at the bakery in Turua, two of us went exploring in the Kaiaeranga Valley east of Thames. A very nice country road along a stream finishing at a DOC visitor centre. The road continues another 9 km but is gravel after the visitor centre. The gravel didn't cause us any problems. A beautiful valley with lots of walks available. I'll have to come back with more suitable gear for walking.
