Te Kauwhata 12 Jan

19 riders today, and another came to the meeting point on his way to work to socialise. Kevin Piper led us the long way round to Te Kauwhata. We took Razorback Road to Pokeno, then Mercer Ferry Road to Highway 22. Kevin's original plan was to go down Churchill Road, which would have had 2.5 km of gravel, but two riders had been down it in the last week and advised it was not good gravel at present. Instead we took Glen Murray Road back to the river, then crossed at Huntly and had a toilet stop there.

From Huntly, we took Ralph Road over the new motorway and went up the east side of Lake Waikere to Te Kauwhata. Most of us ate at the Bakehouse but some tried the new JACKS cafe and gave us a favourable review of it.

Unlike some other recent rides, the corner marking worked perfectly and no one got lost. A lovely day out, well done Kevin.
