Remembrance 2018

Remembering our brothers and sisters no longer with us.

Every year we hold a Remembrance Service Event on the second weekend of each August in Taupo. We meet to remember old friends who have passed on. This year it will be held on August 11th.

There are two main rides to Taupo. A long ride leaves Auckland on Friday morning, taking a more scenic route to Taupo, at which point everyone separates to head to their accommodation. A more direct ride leaves Auckland on Saturday morning and travels to Rotorua, with a fuel stop in Matamata.

A group rides up from Taupo to meet with the Saturday riders from Auckland for lunch on the shores of Lake Rotorua. After gathering at the Pohutu Geyserland everyone rides to Taupo. Those that did not ride to Rotorua on Saturday meet at the Taupo Events Centre with those coming down from Rotorua for the police escorted parade ride along the shores of Lake Taupo, starting at 1:30.

The non religious service is held at The Great Lakes Centre, Story Place Taupo at 2:00pm. The names of those who are no longer with us are read and photos, where available, are projected behind the readers.

Before the service refreshments are available for a donation, along with badges, patches and rockers, which can be purchased at the centre’s entrance. A Saturday night function is held at a venue in Taupo, starting at 8 pm. This is arranged by Taupo Branch, details being supplied at the conclusion of the service.

It is recommended that members make their accommodation bookings early as Taupo can be booked-out with this and other events happening.
