Letterboxes 6 Aug

Six people on bikes at our meeting point today, and several others who came to socialise. There was a heavy shower as we discussed our destination, so we shelved plans for a longer ride. I had planned to continue an unrelated challenge ride after the Ulysses ride, and we decided that four others would accompany me on this. One rider decided this wasn't for him.

The challenge was to visit 32 unusual letterboxes around the Waikato, some on gravel roads. I'd already visited 25 and wanted to fit in three more before the deadline at the end of tomorrow. We found these three, which were on sealed roads between Huntly and Highway 22, and I photographed them with my "Ghostie" mascot for the challenge. Nice roads and the weather was good after that initial shower. Lunch at Te Kauwhata.

At the final letterbox, there were free bags of horse manure available, and one rider suggested this was just what his garden needed, and tried to persuade our TEC to carry a bag home for him. The TEC was unimpressed by this request, and even less sympathetic when we realised the rider who wanted the dung had a topbox on his bike, so he could have taken the pongy load himself!

Thanks to Tony Kay for being TEC.
