DAM BUSTERS RIDE WITH BRIAN - Sunday 16/05/21

What an absolutely stunning day for riding it was today, beautiful blue skies, no rain and moderate temperatures made for a perfect day for riding. 7 hardy souls were gathered at Caltex Bombay to follow Brian on one of his usual rides. We followed him along the motorway as far as Rangiriri, across to the western side of the mighty Waikato for a quick squirt down to Whatawhata. We turned right then took a cheeky left onto the Te-Pahu-Karamu road for a bit of a fang as is usual on this road. We turned right at the t-intersection onto Kakaramea road, took a quick left onto Bell Road, bound for Te Awamutu. We stopped at the Shell station Te Awamutu for a refuel and leg stretch. We peered through the windows at Trevor Hill Motorcycles at the amazing collection of classic bikes he has on display, dreaming of the next bikes we would like, just knowing that our wives were going to say no. Through Kihikihi, onto Arapuni Road, down to Wharapapa South, onto Rotongata Road, then back onto Arapuni for a quick photostop and regroup at the Arapuni dam carpark. We crossed the bridge and went back onto Arapuni road for the third time today. Off we went again, intending to turn right to head back towards Karapiro. How come Tail End Charlie, Chris Moller, ended up marking the corner of Oreipunga Road for RIC? Not sure how that works, did someone miss the turn off Brian Moorwood? We stopped at the lights before the Karapiro dam crossing, and took in the stunning views of the dam. How beautiful it was today.

We went back up on to Highway one and stopped at the Karapiro Cafe for yummy toated sammies and pies. Great Kiwi fare and coffee and speedy service at reasonable prices - thoroughly recommend this cafe. We left the cafe and stopped for a fuel topup at Hautapu then took 1B, homeward bound. It was decided before we left the cafe that we would not stop for an aftermatch coffee at Bombay. Some grumpy person was whinging about the Auckland traffic, not sure who that was, but I didn't want to have coffee with you anyway, Hehehehe.

340Km's today for me, door to door. Thanks Brian for yet another great day of riding with like minded buddies, just what Ulysses is all about. Keep the shiny side up guys, see you on the next run.
